Insurance nightmare continues for Mountain Shadows homeowner

A Mountain Shadows homeowner whose home was damaged in the Waldo Canyon Fire says she's now being re-victimized by her insurance company.
Jenny Macomber told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that she never thought that nearly two years after the fire that her family would still be battling insurance claims. She says American Family Insurance covered a decontamination cleaning after the fire and paid for food while family members were out of the house. But that's where the coverage stopped.
"The roof has blisters and burn marks on it. The siding is warped. The landscaping is black and charred," Macomber explained. "They acknowledge that there is damage but they say that the damage cannot be attributed to the fire. Our windows never leaked before the fire. We could never see daylight through the side of the window. We did not have blisters and burn marks on the roof before the fire."
Macomber said that they are working with their fourth adjuster since the fire and they believe some of the claims have been lost in paperwork.
According to the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association, the Waldo Canyon Fire is the state's most expensive wildfire. The estimated insured losses total $453.7 million from 6,648 claims. A representative estimated about a dozen claims are still unresolved.
"It's very frustrating to still be battling this. It's disheartening," Macomber said. "We entrusted that home to our insurance company and they have failed to fulfill the contract that we have with them."
Calls to representatives at American Family Insurance were not immediately returned.
