Our partners at the Pueblo Chieftain report that accused Aurora theater shooter, James Holmes, is at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo for mental evaluations.
Holmes arrived at the hospital early Monday. He will be in a ward by himself under very tight security, said Nick Bonham, a reporter at The Pueblo Chieftain.
"The results of this psych evaluation are critical for his case," Bonham said.
In June, the superintendent of the state hospital asked the Arapahoe District Court to extend the deadline of Holmes' psychiatric evaluation. The evaluation was supposed to be completed on July 31.
The judge agreed to extend the evaluation until mid-September.
It is unclear how long Holmes will be at CMHIP. Last month, Holmes' attorneys finally admitted that Holmes opened fire in the movie theater last summer, killing 12 people and injuring dozens of others. But that admission relies on proving that Holmes was insane when he did it.
