Teen accused of bringing gun to Lewis-Palmer High

Lewis-Palmer High School was locked down Wednesday (1/29/14) after a 17-year-old student brought a gun to school, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

The teen has been charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds (a felony) and possession of a handgun by a juvenile (a misdemeanor).

He has been placed at the Spring Creek Youth Services center in Colorado Springs.

Officials say they do not believe the student had any intentions of using the gun.

Robin Adair with Lewis-Palmer School District 38 says a student brought the handgun to school in a backpack. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has confiscated the gun and is questioning the student who brought it.

The lockdown was ordered as a precaution after an anonymous tip about someone bringing a gun to school was called in to Safe 2 Tell.
