Local Rotary clubs give money to flood-damaged businesses in Manitou
For the second time this season, the area's eight Rotary clubs donated money to several of the businesses most damaged by flash flooding in Manitou Springs.
The club presented a $1,000 check to five businesses Wednesday, bringing the total number of club fund recipients to eight.
Blue Skies Inn, Pikes Peak Inn, Goldminer's Nuts, Safron of Manitou Springs and Mr. Tech Head -- a home-based business -- will spend the money on flood recovery.
The Small Business Development Council and the Service Corps of Retired Executives chose the recipients from an estimated 100 eligible applicants.
The amount isn't much, given that business owners have losses as high as $100,000. However, they said any amount is helpful and they appreciate the money.
The clubs have no plans to distribute additional money. The clubs also have donated to businesses struggling after the Black Forest and Waldo Canyon wildfires.
The eight local clubs are Colorado Springs, Broadmoor, Pikes Peak, Rampart Range, Garden of the Gods, East Colorado Springs, Interquest and North Colorado Springs. Many club members own small businesses and are sensitive to the needs of merchants affected by recent disasters.
