Colorado Springs police say a man enraged by a loud party next door stabbed four people Sunday night.
The attack was reported at 10:51 p.m. at the Broadmoor Ridge Apartment Homes, in the 3700 block of Westmeadow Drive, near Highway 115 and South Academy Boulevard.
Police say 23-year-old Saul Lucas stabbed one person in the head, one person in the forearm, another in the shoulder and sliced a fourth person's ear. Some witnesses were able to hold Lucas down until officers arrived, police said. All of the victims are expected to be OK.
A tenant at the apartment unit told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that he had a few people over at his apartment to watch football. They didn't know their neighbor was upset with the noise, he said.
"He could have acknowledged us or asked us to turn down the music," Dionicio Martinez said. "I mean yes, it was kind of loud, but you can't just come over and knock and start stabbing people."
Martinez said he left his apartment shortly before the attack. When he returned, he found out four of his friends had been injured and taken to a hospital. Blood was everywhere, and some of his furniture was destroyed.
"The man above protected me," Martinez said. "Luckily I wasn't here. I wasn't in that situation. So I'm thankful for that. I'm just glad my buddies are OK and they survived. That's all that matters."
Martinez told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that he had never really spoken to Lucas. He described him as seeming timid and shy.
"I never really thought this man would come to my door with a trench coat and a knife and try stabbing everybody," Martinez said. "I guess anything can happen at any time. You never know who lives next to you. You just have to be aware at all times."
Lucas faces charges of attempted murder and related crimes. He is an active-duty soldier stationed at Fort Carson.
