Running for Firefighters

He's running more than 3,600 miles across the country, all for firefighters.

We just barely caught up with Jeff Venable as he ran through Colorado Springs on Monday.

"Some days may be longer than I want, wetter than I want. There's not going to be many reason for things to go wrong we have to just keep pushing," said Venable.

He is pushing to ground zero, just in time for 9/11.

"We should get into town, we will get into town on 9/10 and do whatever it takes to get there for the 9/11 ceremony," said Venable.

He's doing it for firefighters - heroes, like his wife.

"We are out there, every day to put our lives on the line. When it actually does come to that you just can’t imagine how it feels," said Linda Venable.

For more than 32 years Linda fought fires shoulder to shoulder with her family; the Dallas Fire Department.

Although Colorado Springs wasn't exactly on their way to New York, the reason they came to visit Memorial Park.

"It’s the fallen firefighter memorial. That's where we stand right now. It's a very important place," said Venable.

At the memorial, Linda is reminded of home. She recognized two names on the wall of fallen heroes.

"Right here, Todd Krodel. He was one of the first guys killed in the line of duty in Dallas in quite awhile. Also, Kenny Harris, Captain Kenny Harris. That was just a huge blow to the fire department," said Linda Venable.

But that blow brought the Venable’s charity to life.

"That's kind of how we got started, it was just the tremendous loss of life that we've had," said Linda Venable.

Monday marked Jeff's 52nd day in a row of running. So far he's ran over 1,500 miles. His next big stop is Kansas City.

Jeff and Linda's charity is called support for firefighters.
