Twinkies are back after 8 months so Jonathan Petramala put them to the test.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

After an 8-month hiatus Twinkies have returned to store shelves across the country.

The new owners of Hostess say the cream filled cakes have fewer calories, but are about 10% smaller than the previous version.  We also have learned they will now have a 45-day shelf life, up from 26 days.

But will they hold up to the tradition of all the experiments people have performing for years on the sweet treat?

In the tradition of Rice University students and the infamous T.W.I.N.K.I.E.S Project (Tests With Inorganic Noxious Kakes In Extreme Situations) from 1995, KRDO Newschannel 13’s Jonathan Petramala with the help of 11-year-old Anthony Langdon found out what else can affect the Twinkies shelf life.
