COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Drivers commuting on Interstate 25 will encounter periodic two-lane closures during the next several months as workers fix pot holes and uneven surfaces.

The I-25 expansion project added one lane in each direction of the interstate between State Highway 105 in Monument and Woodmen Road in Colorado Springs.  The third lane is open northbound. Workers still need to finish a four-mile stretch southbound between State Highway 105 and North Gate Boulevard.

Workers still need to lay down the final layer of asphalt. That work will be completed during the spring and summer when the temperature increases.

Without that final layer of asphalt, the road is prone to pot holes and the surface of the road in some areas is uneven.

"You can tell that it's not quite smooth because there are still grooves and ruts and stuff like that," said Greg Nowlin.

"It's not really as bad as it looks but it's not the greatest ride," said Christi Maggard.

Workers will fix pot holes and problem areas as they arise, but it will require lanes to be closed while the work is completed.

"I'm not looking forward to if they do close down the lanes again, it slows things down," said Dusty LaPerriere.  "I'm on the clock when I'm driving and it adds more money for my employer to have to pay, for us to sit in traffic, and time out of my day that I spend with my family."

A press release sent out by I-25 Expansion Project did not outline specific times the lanes will be closed but said the closures would happen between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
