9 Banks Robbed in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

It's like the Wild West-- bad guys are sticking up banks in Colorado Springs. There have been nine bank robberies so far this year.

The latest two happened yesterday. One at the Wells Fargo Bank off of South Nevada Ave, and the other at the Academy Bank off of Briargate Blvd.

CSPD said in some cities there might be something to the trend theory, like sticking to banks near the highway, but in Colorado Springs the answer is not so simple.

“There is really no rhyme or reason,” said CSPD spokesperson Barbara Miller.

Banks are where we keep our money, but to criminals these buildings look like their next cash cow.

“It's really difficult for us to identify a trend, and make it easier on us,” said Miller.

Since the robbery unity can't call the rash of bank robberies a "trend,” prevention is key.

“You know we always tell them to tell people, ' You've got to remove a baseball cap and sunglasses as you enter. So, that should be a red flag, when someone is entering the bank with their sunglasses on the entire time,” said Miller.

CSPD also encourages banks to use high quality security cameras, and to have height markers on the doors so that a criminal can be more easily identified.

If you have information on any bank robberies you can call police at 444-700, or you can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
