An emergency drill held Saturday helps both Broadmoor Bluffs neighbors and police prepare for a mass evacuation. Jaclyn Rostie reports.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

After two summers with two massive wildfires, the Colorado Springs Police Department and neighborhoods are more than willing to practice a disaster.

On Saturday, about 150 families in the Broadmoor Bluffs neighborhood took part in a neighborhood evacuation.

Police led the evacuation drill. They ran the emergency alert call system then knocked on doors to get residents out.

Then families were asked to leave the neighborhood at the same time to simulate an evacuation situation and create traffic congestion.

One resident said the showed her just how little time she would really have if a fire was threatening the neighborhood.

"It really confirms we need to do more in terms of being ready to go, having at least the things we need to take readily available," said Sue Iverson.

Police plan to analyze the drill to help better prepare in case of a real emergency.
