Pueblo Fire Chief accepts same position in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Pueblo's fire chief is moving north.

Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach has appointed Christopher P. Riley as the new chief of the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

Riley has served as chief of the Pueblo Fire Department since 2006.

"I am pleased to introduce Chief Riley as the next Fire Chief for the City of Colorado Springs," said Mayor Steve Bach. "His 32 years in the fire service, including extensive wildland experience and seven years as Fire Chief for the City of Pueblo, will be a tremendous asset to our community."

Chief Riley will earn $145,000 annually and will oversee a department of 427 firefighters and 20, soon to be 22, fire stations.

There were 40 applicants for the position, 9 of whom interviewed for the job.  There were no internal applicants.

Colorado Springs City Council is expected to confirm the appointment at its August 13 meeting.

Pending City Council confirmation, Chief Riley's start date will be September 9.
