Pueblo man gets 57 years for fatal shooting
A 20-year-old Pueblo man convicted of killing one person and wounding another during a shooting last year has been sentenced to 57 years in prison.
The Pueblo Chieftain reported Saturday that Jerrid Lee Salazar was sentenced for killing 22-year-old Caleb Cosby and injuring 39-year-old Shannon Carter in Bessemer in June 2012. Cosby was convicted in June of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and attempted manslaughter.
Salazar said he was defending himself from an angry group of people when he fired into the crowd of people standing outside a home. But prosecutors say he fired indiscriminately at the crowd and there was no justification for the shooting.
