Repair crews update pothole progress in Colorado Springs

Published On: Mar 18 2014 08:58:37 PM CDT

Repair crews say the sheer volume has added a week to individual repair times.

The Colorado Springs Streets Division is getting what it wanted -- more drivers reporting locations of potholes -- but the reports are adding to the volume of repair jobs.

Corey Farkas, the division's manager, said eight crews are patching 700 potholes weekly but that still isn't enough to gain ground.

"That list grows every day," he said.  "Folks are calling in the potholes.  We are gaining on the list.  We are filling more potholes than are being called in.  But it's taking one step forward, two steps back."

Farkas said priority for patching goes to the worst and to those reported the earliest.  He said drivers may continue reporting pothole locations by contacting the Streets Division or by using a smartphone app available on the city's website.

Mayor Steve Bach plans to make potholes a topic in his regular media briefing next week.
