Republicans have begun lining up to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Udall in his first re-election bid in 2014.

Republicans see Udall as a vulnerable target because of Congress' unpopularity. But he's far from an easy target. Already he's hauled in nearly $1.6 million this year for his campaign.
The GOP contenders so far have the type of conservative record Democrats have shown they like to pounce on. Colorado Springs freshman state Sen. Owen Hill announced his candidacy earlier this week. He proposed an unsuccessful anti-abortion measure that would've expanded Colorado's existing ban on the use of public funds for the procedure.
And state Sen. Randy Baumgardner of Hot Sulphur Springs pitched an Arizona-style immigration law for Colorado two years ago, but voluntarily withdrew it before a vote. His campaign launches Friday.
