Russell Middle Schoolers are Wear Red Friday Heroes

Don't say students have no gumption or character in 2013. Russell Middle School students are proving both those assumptions absolutely wrong. The students are going all out with fundraisers so they can send a World War Two Veteran on an Honor Flight to Washington, DC. It's an emotional journey for these veterans as they are honored for their service to country.
It costs about one thousand dollars to send one veteran on an Honor Flight. So far in various fundraisers since Tuesday, the students have raised more than one thousand dollars. Eighth Grader Danaya Glanton is proud to be doing this for these veterans, "We want to show our appreciation to them for what they've done. It's actually very important to me because my Father is in the military." Isaiah Lucero is another eighth grader who care about these veterans and his community, "It's nice to honor the World War Two veterans because we don't have much more time with them."
Russell Middle School principal Julie Williams is proud of her students and is the author of this idea to link up with the Honor Flight organizers and send veterans to DC, "Personally it is very important for me because my Dad was a World War Two Veteran. He was a Marine in the war."
One of the fundraisers was definitely a little unique. Money was collected for teachers and others to kiss a pig. Yes, a real live pet pig. That's dedication and another reason why Russell Middle School students and staff are Wear Red Friday Heroes. Now that the school has enough money for one veteran to take the Honor Flight, they are raising money for more veterans to go on the journey of a lifetime. All the money will be presented to the Honor Flight organizers at a November eighth presentation at Russell Middle School.
