COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

The Salvation Army needs your help to make Christmas dinner happen for needy families after learning that 500 turkeys it was expecting aren't coming.

The charity says it needs at least 350 turkeys, whole chickens or hams for its Christmas food bag distribution program. The food will be distributed to more than 450 families on Saturday, December 21, 2013.

The organization says it will have to withhold food from its regular weekly food distribution if it doesn't collect enough meat to make up for the holiday shortage.

Donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army office located at 908 Yuma Street in Colorado Springs.
