170 soldiers from engineering and ordinance companies return to the Mountain Post after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

FORT CARSON, Colo. -

On Saturday night, 170 soldiers came home to the Mountain Post after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

The soldiers belong to the 576th Engineer Company and the 60th Ordinance Company.

The 576th's mission was to clear critical supply routes as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.  The unit also worked with Italian and Spanish forces.  Much of the duty has now been assumed by the Afghan National Army.

The 60th specialized in issuing, processing and storing ammunition.

The troops returned to an enthusiastic welcome from family and friends at Fort Carson around 10 p.m.
