School tax campaign attracting millionaire donors

Published On: Oct 28 2013 06:19:55 PM CDT

A ballot question seeking to raise Colorado residents' income taxes to benefit public schools has deep-pocketed support. The campaign in favor of the measure has reported donations of $1 million or more from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates.

The campaign to back to tax hike has now raised more than $10 million. That's according to campaign finance reports posted Monday.
Bloomberg added $1.05 million to the effort and the Gateses contributed $1 million.
The campaign raised $2.54 million raised in the last two weeks.
The campaign has spent at least $4.5 million to get its message across on TV and radio and knocking on doors.
The tax opposition campaign isn't a traditional campaign committee, making it impossible to gauge what the opposition has spent.
