One woman is a guiding hand to help future Moms at Fort Carson and she is our Wear Red Friday Hero. Sergeant Christy Beal is at Evans Army Hospital as the Assistant Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Obstetrics Clinic. It's a long title that is summed up by Sergeant Beal, "I'm a huge advocate for active duty female soldiers who are pregnant. I like to see patients happy and I love to see the babies come in after they are born."
I caught up Christy as she was about to do an exam with Amber. Amber is an active duty soldier who is pregnant with her third child. Sergeant First Class John Wayne Oliver is the man who nominated Christy for our Wear Red Friday Hero award. He told she's an inspiration to others in her first year of being on post, "You never have to ask her to do anything. She's always stepping in and volunteering to do things that are beyond her job duties. It's mind numbing to see her professionalism. It's great."
Sergeant Christy Beal definitely goes above and beyond. Recently she put together a baby shower for more than a thousand women. As sensitive as she is to her patients and their needs, Beal is still a professional soldier. She deployed to Iraq from 2003-2004 as a Combat Medic with 7159 Aviation Regiment and was in Afghanistan from 2011-2012 as a Combat Medic with 40th Engineers. She told me the military got her on track. She served in the reserves from 1999-2002 and then went active duty Army in 2002 to the present, "I love what I do and I have since I joined the military. It gave me direction and purpose."
Sergeant Beal brushed off her Wear Red Friday Hero status by saying, "I just do my job to the best of my ability every day." That statement alone is testament to why we picked her to be a Wear Red Friday Hero.
