COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Colorado Springs Police say a man tried to kidnap a 5-year-old girl earlier this month.

The incident happened in the 4300 block of E. Pikes Peak Ave. on June 12, 2014. Police received the report at 9:07 p.m. They did not release information about the attempted kidnapping until June 26, 2014. Police say investigators first followed up on leads in the case before coming forward with a plea for the public's help.

Investigators say the 5-year-old girl was playing outside when a man tried to carry her away. They say she was released a short time later and was able to walk home. The girl suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Family members told police that they saw a man running from the area a short time later.

Police say they aren't sure whether the man that the family saw running is responsible for the attempted kidnapping or not, but they want to talk to him.

The man was Hispanic, 5'0" tall with a thin build. He has black hair in a bowl cut and a black goatee. He was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt the night of the attempted kidnapping.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Colorado Springs Police at 719-444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867).
