Stranger danger concerns: parents happy kids getting the clue

A series of attempted abduction reports in Colorado have parents and children, cautious.

Colorado Springs Police were investigating a report of another attempted kidnapping on Thursday (11/7/13). This time it was at Monterey Elementary. On Tuesday (11/5/13), a 12-year-old refused a stranger's offer to pick her up from Panorama Middle School.

The Monterey Elementary neighborhood is buzzing after reports of an attempted kidnapping.

"It's better safe than sorry. If they're uncomfortable, they should know enough to know that if they're uncomfortable, they need to say something,” said parent Dedra Rude.

The Monterey reported incident happened only two days after a Panorama Middle School student experienced the scary scenario firsthand.

"And was like, hey, your mom told me to come pick you up,” said attempted kidnapping victim Nicole Hill.

Hill outsmarted the stranger.

"I was like, what's my mom's name? He gave me a look and he just screeched off,"

A smart question that shows more kids are aware of the stranger danger.

"It's always good to have great precaution,” said parent Angela Humphrey.

More and more kids are reporting those encounters to adults.

"You see something suspicious, something's not feeling right, just to run and find an adult,” said Humphrey.

In Aurora, police arrested a man suspected of trying to kidnap an eight-year-old girl.

"Makes you wonder where you can live where your kids can actually be safe and actually go outside and run and play,” said Humphrey.

But knowing that students are listening to their advice eases parents’ minds.

“Doesn't mean something necessarily is happening, but if they're uncomfortable they need to make that known,” said Rude.

"I don't trust you. I don't know you. Have a nice day. Bye,” said Hill.
