A man accused of transporting 11 Mexican citizens through southern Colorado allegedly charged each of them $400 to take them from Texas to California to work on farms.

Forty-five-year-old Dagoberto Avila, of Rosenburg, Texas was arrested Friday near Penrose after state troopers pulled him over for suspected drunken driving.
The Canon City Daily Record reported Wednesday that the arrest affidavit says that troopers didn't find any evidence of that but they were suspicious because there were so many people crammed into the Nissan van.
The passengers included six adults and five children whom investigators say admitted to being in the country illegally.
He is being held on 11 counts of human smuggling. It's not clear if he has a lawyer. Charges could be filed against him at a May 21 hearing.
