Traffic stopped at Ft. Carson during Retreat ceremony

Ft. Carson will stop traffic at several intersections during the end-of-the-day Retreat ceremony.

Traffic will be stopped at certain intersections at Fort Carson during the Retreat ceremony, the post said Tuesday.

The Retreat is a longtime Army ceremony that signals the end of the day, and it's a time in which soldiers pay respect to the flag.

The announcement comes nearly two weeks after a soldier's selfie caused controversy. Pfc Tariqka Sheffey posted the selfie online, with the following caption:

"This is me laying back in my car hiding so I don't have to salute the 1700 flag, KEEP ALL YOUR 'THATS SO DISRESPECTFUL/HOWRUDE/ETC.' COMMENTS TO YOURSELF cuz, right now, IDGAFFFF."

Fort Carson finished its investigation into the incident, but officials didn't want to say what the consequences for Sheffey would be.

"The investigation into the social-media incident concerning a Fort Carson Soldier is complete," said a statement from the post. "The unit commander addressed the situation consistent with his authority. It is not the policy of the United States Army to disclose the results of administrative actions."

Officials at Fort Carson didn't want to speak on camera about stopping traffic during Retreat. They didn't allow KRDO NewsChannel 13 to go on post to one of the intersections where traffic would be stopped either.
