GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

Grand Junction police have released more information regarding a domestic violence dispute that resulted in a man being stabbed multiple times on Tuesday night.

Barbara Blanton, 37, was arrested for 2nd degree assault with a deadly weapon after she allegedly attacked her boyfriend, 53-year-old Richard Murphy.

The incident happened at 1158 Bookcliff Avenue around 5 p.m.

According to the arrest affidavit, Blanton denies ever stabbing Murphy and claims he had already been stabbed when he returned to their apartment.

Murphy told police they had been arguing off and on all day so he went to the bedroom to get away from Blanton. He said she blocked the door and as he was trying to exit through the apartment window she stabbed him in the left arm with a kitchen knife.

Murphy said she stabbed him two more time in the back before he was able to grab her wrists and push her back. He called police when he made it outside.

He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

When Blanton was interviewed by police, she continued to deny the allegations and said she didn't know why Murphy would claim that she stabbed him.

The Grand Junction Police Department continues to investigate.
