Winter Storm Warnings (Red) in effect until 11pm. Blizzard Warnings (Pink) in effect until 11pm. Winter Weather Advisories (White) in effect until 11pm.
Precipitation expands from northwest to southeast and the wind cranks up in the late morning.
Elevation usually plays an important role in storms this time of year and this storm will be no exception.
40 to 60mph wind gusts develop over the Palmer Divide and will cause blizzard conditions for I-25, Highway 83, Highway 24 and Highway 94 north and east of Colorado Springs by late Saturday morning.
The lower you are in elevation the less snow you'll get thanks to the normal north wind, but also melting from below and some compacting. As the day wears on the falling snow will become airy and thus blow around all over the place.
Light snow accumulations on the grass may occur in Pueblo, but you start getting higher and amounts will become heavy over parts of the Wet and Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
